F-35s in the Indo-Pacific
May 08, 2024
F-35s are boosting partnership and deterrence in America’s “priority theater.”
As the fighter-of-choice for allies across the Indo-Pacific, the F-35 is delivering advanced airpower from land and sea.
Wherever They May Roam
“When major events happen, we’re going to get the call to deploy the F-35,” said U.S. Air Force Col. James Buessing, whose unit recently returned from a marathon deployment to the Pacific region.
U.S. Marine and Navy F-35s have also maintained a continuous presence in the Indo-Pacific, including recent F-35B training with South Korean F-35As, and F-35C operations aboard aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.
Pacific Partners
“Indo-Pacom is working with our regional allies and partners like never before,” said U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III, highlighting the power of U.S. partnerships in the Pacific.
To strengthen interoperability, America, Australia and Japan will conduct trilateral F-35 training in all three countries in the next two years.
“The F-35 is the world’s most advanced operational strike fighter, but its full potential only becomes apparent when it’s integrated within a wider network of systems,” said Royal Australian Air Force Wing Commander Adrian Kiely.
